Focus

Since 2004, Race of Grace events have generated $298,000 to distribute to agencies in ministry to the hungry, homeless, and under-insured!

Every year Race of Grace organizers interview and select local agencies that reach out in powerful and effective ways to those in need.

For 2012, the focus is helping to relieve hunger.

Beneficiaries of the 2012 Race of Grace are:

  • Urban Ministries of Wake County
Now in its 30th year of existence, Urban Ministries of Wake County offers one of the largest food pantries in Wake County. Last year, the agency provided a week’s worth healthy groceries to over 22,000 Wake County residents — that’s the size of Holly Springs! More than 9,000 of those served were children. The Food Pantry serves only Wake County residents and distributes food each morning of the work week. This assistance allows families to shift limited financial resources from food to other necessary payments, such as rent or utilities. Urban Ministries serves as many as 40 families each day, enabling individuals and children to get the proper nutrition they need.  Visit Urban Ministries of Wake County website (opens in a new window).
  • Women’s Center of Wake County
One of the three major program areas for the Women’s Center is Basic Needs. Within that program the Women’s Center provides breakfast each morning; lunch six to eight times a month; and emergency food. Last year, WCWC distributed over 35,000 pounds of food to 832 adults and 539 children. Daily, the Center serves between 30-60 women and children who are homeless. They are often in need of a nourishing meal or food that can be readily consumed. Funds provide the ability to make regular purchases of healthy foods like juices and fruit to supplement donated food and provide healthier options. With $3,000 the Women’s Center is able to provide a week of food and breakfast/lunch for over 450 women and children. Visit the Women’s Center of Wake County website (opens in a new window).

In addition, non-perishable foods will be collected to help stock the shelves of a local food pantry.

You can make a difference too.
